In times of soctal distancing metro set to mend the gap
PINK LINE : construction of missing link may be over by March
New Delhi: The "missing link" of Delhi Metro's longest corridor, Pink Line, is likely to be bridged by March next year as the const ruction work of a viaduct between Trilokpuri and Ma yur Vihar Pocket - 1 stations is in progress. The 58.6km Pink Line from Majlis Park to Shiv Vi har is one of the most ambi tious corridors built by Del hi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). It is also known as the "ring corridor" as it func tions as an arc, connecting all the existing corridors. Unavailability of land at Trilokpuri had meant that DMRC couldn't const ruct the critical stretch con necting Mayur Vihar to Trilokpuri. As a result, the longest single corridor cur rently functions as two independent corridors. While one section operates from Majlis Park to Mayur Vihar Pocket - 1, the trains coming from Shiv Vihar re turn from Trilokpuri sta tion, leaving a gap of almost 4km in between. Trilokpuri is a densely populated residential area and land was needed for the construction of 10 pillars to build the viaduct. The occu pants of 108 plots in Block - 15 had to be relocated to make this land available. DMRC re located most of the occu pants to flats built nearby and then floated tenders for construction of the missing link last year.
"The foundation work has been completed and pier casting is going on in this section. The total length of this stretch is 289 meters and preparations are in progress for pier cap cas ting too," DMRC said in a statement. "However, 17 hours has still not been evacuated and the matter is subju dice," it added.
Though DMRC was tight lipped, sources said the construction was likely to be completed by March 2021. Once the viaduct was comp lete, Pink Line would most likely witness a spike in foot fall as it would connect large parts of East Delhi with so uth and west. Also, DMRC has started construction work on the 12.6km Majlis Park - Mauj pur corridor, which will turn Pink Line into a complete circle. The Majlis Park - Maujpur corridor is part of DMRC's Phase - IV project and will also boast of the first cantilever bridge across the Yamuna. The tenders for construc tion of the viaduct were floa ted mainly for civil work. The work is expected to be completed within about eight months at a cost of Rs 15.6 crore. While finding eno ugh land nearby to rehabili tate all the families took a long time, DMRC finally ma naged to accomplish the feat. The lottery for allotment of flats for project affected per sons "at Trilokpuri was held on the order of Delhi High Court under the supervision of an observer.
