 JEE main off to glitch free start in 500 centers  



The first two sessions of the firstain were held on Tuesday amid stringent sa fety measures in view of the Covid - 19 pandemic, with no technical glitches or breach of standard operating proce dures being reported from any of the over 500 centers across the country, reports  Manash Gohain.  

The measures to mainta in social distancing coupled with logistical support of state governments ensureda smooth start to exams to be held till September 6. The test had been postponed twi ce due to the pandemic.  The candidates were giv en staggered entry time and their body temperature was checked at the exam centers.

SC yet to list states' exams review plea 

 JEE examination got off to a start on Tuesday but the Supreme Court is yet to list the review petition filed by ministers from Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand for hearing.  Advocate Sunil Fernandes, who filed the joint petition on behalf of the ministers of these states, said he has been seeking listing of the case but the registry has not given any date for hearing.  The joint petition was filed by West Bengal law and labor minister Maloy Ghatak, Jharkhand finance minister Rameshwar Oraon, Rajasthan health minister Raghu Sharma, Chhattisgarh food and civil supplies minister Amarjeet Bhagat, Punjab health minister Balbir Singh Sidhu and Maharashtra higher education minister Uday R Samant  .  They sought review of the August 17 order of a bench which had rejected PILs seeking postponement of JEE (Main) and NFFT - UG due to the pandemic.

 the complete process from entry at the main gate to the allotted seat was contactless.  There was staggeredexit after exams too.  The first day was for BArch / B Planning aspirants (Paper 2), which was conduct ed over two sessions.  Around 53,500 aspirants had regis tered for the test.  From Wednesday, the exam for BE / BTech (Paper 1) will be held over eight sessions.  Attendance in Paper 2 this year came down to around 60 65% from the usual 70-80%.  "JEE exam was conducted smoothly all over the country. I would like to thank all the state governments and offi cials of National Testing Agency," said Amit Khare, secretary (higher education) in education ministry. In Odisha, many aspirants availed free transport  and ac commodation provided by the government P Soundarya, who traveled 580km from Mal kangiri district to reach Bhu baneswar, said: "My family members are the princi pal of the government - run ITI regarding transportation and accommodation issues.  The government brought me to Bhubaneswar in a vehicle and provided accommodation in a hostel of a private university.  I did not pay a single rupee.  "Soundarya was not an excep tion as many others like Debas Mita Sahoo, P Sandhya, Abhi nas Mohanta and Anuj Mirdha availed free government facili ties to take the exam.
